The Center for Community Health Development South Texas (STX) serves the South Texas communities and serves as a liaison between College Station and the Rio Grande Valley – Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy counties—for the Texas A&M Health Science Center, School of Rural Public Health, and other partners’ faculty and staff conducting research and implementing interventions in South Texas. Current strategies include:

  1. Continued development of a community health worker training center;
  2. Provision of technical assistance to local entities;
  3. Network/partnership development;
  4. Training; and
  5. Research and implementation projects.

CCHD STX accomplishes these strategies through participating in several activities and events with existing partners, establishing new relationships in South Texas and other parts of the state, and exploring several opportunities for future collaborations. Technical assistance activities include: grant writing/proposal development; conducting focus groups; data provision/analysis; training promotores/community health workers; translation services; and translating materials for use here in the Rio Grande Valley and among other Hispanic populations around the state and U.S.
